A short article on the possible benefits and downfalls from designing for friends.
Before I begin, I’d like to say that my overall experience of designing for friends and/or family has been good and for the most part mutually beneficial; I attribute this to a few rules already out there but also a good judgement of character (please note this is not to say in any way that certain people I have worked with are bad people).
In the past 7 years I have designed for large, medium & small companies as well as family and friends; there have been some truly great opportunities that have come with these projects, be networking, self-promotional, financial or most importantly educational, but as with all things there have been some positively negative experiences too, but rather than give examples of these experiences, I will show what I believe to be the pro’s and con’s of them, I hope this will help you if you are thinking of designing for friends and family or engaging them to design for you!
So as you can see there are some great benefits but some pretty risky downfalls here; but as I said previously, my experience when working with friends has been an overall good one, here is how I approach the subject (please note that this has worked for me and may not be applicable for everyone).
So there we go, I hope this helps you when designing for friends & family or getting them to design for you.
